More than half the world’s population now lives in urban areas. Thus, the 21st Century will be an Urban Century. This presentation takes a global view of the implications of demographic change for development strategy and planning for urban areas in the 21st century. The presentation examines, in particular, the adaptation of migrants; the issue of emerging spatial inequalities; and the role of cities in global environmental sustainability.
