Wonyong CHOI, Ph.D. Professor, Head£¬Division of Environmental Science & Engineering (also at Dept. of Chemical Engineering) Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH).
Prof. Wonyong Choi received B.S. (honors) from Seoul National University (Korea) in 1988, M.S. from POSTECH (Korea), and Ph.D. from California Institute of Technology (USA) in 1996. He then worked at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory from 1996 to 1998 as a postdoctoral scholar. He joined POSTECH in 1998 as an assistant professor and became a full professor in 2008.
His research areas are focused on semiconductor photocatalysis for environmental and energy applications, solar hydrogen production, development of visible light active photocatalysts, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), developments of physicochemical methods for the destruction of recalcitrant pollutants and environmental photochemistry and ice chemistry. He has published 314 research articles in SCI journals with total citation >41,800 times. The H-index has 88 (Web of Science, 2020/10), Google citation >55,500 and H-index 98 (2020/10).
He was elected as Fellow of Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST) and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2014. He received Highly Cited Researcher (Clarivate Analytics) in 2019, Korea Engineering Award in 2018, KAST Science and Technology Award in 2015, Namgo (Jong-Ryul Lee) Chair Professor, POSTECH in 2012, Lectureship Award for Asian and Oceanian Photochemist (Japanese Photochemistry Association) in 2008, Young Scientist Award (Korean Academy of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology) in 2006, Alumni Association President Award for Outstanding Engineering Students (SNU Engineering College) in 1988.
Professor Choi has served as editor-in-Chief for ACS ES&T Engineering since 2020. Prior to serving as Editor-in-Chief, he served as an editor for the Journal of Hazardous Materials from 2008 to 2017 and as an associate editor for Environmental Science & Technology (ES&T) from 2017 to 2019. He has also been on the editorial board of Nature Sustainability (since 2020.), Energy and Environmental Science (since 2008), ACS Earth and Space Chemistry since 2017, Environ. Sci. Technol. (from 2015.2 to 2017.3), and J. Phys. Chem. (since 2009).
